If you are a regular watcher of the television, you will inevitably begin to become bored by the repetitive viewing line up and repeated programmes that invariably characterise almost every channel. Sometimes, it seems that calculating your lifetime mortgages might be more entertaining than an evening in front of the set, and when you begin to feel this way, it's undoubtedly time for a change of scenery.
While television is perhaps the most far reaching and widely popular mode of entertainment today, there are also other means available by which to keep yourself occupied. Perhaps the most obvious of these is a trip to the cinema; read a few film reviews in your lunch break, make a booking online, and go to the movies instead of vegging on the couch.
For something a little different, you might be keen to visit the theatre. While plays and musical productions are not as popular today as they were in the past, big theatrical districts in the world's cultural centre still do a roaring trade almost every night. There is no need to go all the way to the West End though; simply nip into your local student or amateur dramatic production.
Finally, you might consider something more obscurely cultured still and book seats for you and friends at the ballet or opera. Many people haven't been exposed to either of these art forms, and while perhaps not everyone's cup of tea, they are an important part of European and American cultural heritage.
If the television is boring you to tears it is a good idea to take a break from the box and couch, branching out into alternative entertainment media. Visit the cinema, the theatre or, if you are feeling exceptionally cultural, secure seats at the ballet or opera; the change will shake you out of your viewing rut.
